The clattering clockwork life I lead here is so devoid of beauty and quiet repose — the sort that greets you at your doorstep through no direct effort of your own. I was miserable. You felt miserable because you loved me, I was miserable, and nothing you did seemed to change that much. That how I felt when you said the words while staring out towards the expressway, the scaffolding still around the Savings Bank then. You would not say why, a reluctant peck received goodbye, and I thought you were just in a mood and I was going back to my project - back when I could just start working and not think about anything else for 8 hours at a time.
